“Help”

I took this on my phone while we were at the dentist office with Sam.  It’s not much but you can clearly hear her verbalizing.  Hopefully, we won’t see as many tantrums going forward.

Little Drummer Girl

Mar
No Comments   Posted by admin |  Category:video

Rachel’s been really expanding her vocabulary, both what she can say and what she can understand.  We went over all the body parts yesterday and she loves to point out your nose to you.  That and peek-a-boo are some of her favorite games when she’s not doodling, which she calls draw.  She’s also decided that she has to have a coat and hat when she leaves home and school.  She also has decided that her daily report from school is her ticket out so she won’t give it up until she’s safely in the car.  We’re trying to figure out how to break her of those habits but it’s going to be tough, she knows what she wants and will let you know when she doesn’t get it.  The crying tantrums and stomping feet are starting early, hopefully this stage will pass quickly.

But then she gives you a hug and a big kiss and it all passes.  She’s going to be one of those girls that gets away with murder if we’re not careful.  Too cute, like this:

Christmas Videos

Another update from Christmas, this time with videos!  Rachel had a lot of fun making cookies.  Well, really, just eating them.  She also liked some of her presents pretty well but the whole Christmas concept didn’t really make a lot of sense to her.  We also tried to go sledding with her; but after 30 minutes, she was ready for cocoa and a warm car.  Well, enjoy.

9th and 10th month

Sep

I am a slacker and missed posting about her 9th and 10th month.  Actually, we’ve been really busy enjoying the end of the summer, which means we’ve been running around and not at home quite as much.

Rachel has been quite busy growing and learning.  She has learned to crawl fast, climb, and get into everything; pull up; free stand; give up bottles; clap;  point; sign more and all done and play peekaboo.  Her hair is long enough that I can get it into a pigtail here and there (she hates it) and her last growth spurt seems to have been entirely in her feet.  She went from not being able to wear her shoes because they were all too big to not being able to wear three pairs because they were all too small.

She has even started to done some beginning talking, which seems to involve milk (“mah”), dog (“dahg”), Sadie (“adie”), “pretty”, and all done (“ah da”).  We’re just starting to decipher all of it, and she doesn’t do it consistently yet.  She’s getting close and she gets really happy when we seem to figure out what she’s trying to say.  She’s a really good mimic (she copied Sam and I saying “Cock a Doodle, Doo”), so it is hard to tell what is her talking and her mimicking us.

Rae and I went with my mom to my cousins wedding in Wisconsin.  She was an awesome traveler and charmed everyone.  We all had a great time and she finally got to wear one of the beautiful party dresses that Nai Nai has been picking up for her.

At daycare, Rae has been having a lot of fun with the older kids.  Now that she is crawling and climbing, she gets to join them on the concourse and the play equipment out there.  Sadly, the big kids are transitioning out soon, so she will be the oldest.  Hopefully, she will transition into the tots room soon so she can have her big kids to play with again.

I don’t know if it is because she’s a second kid, but she really loves to play with older kids, especially Sam.  If he’s on the floor, she wants to be involved in what he’s doing.  I will often come into a room and find them giggling about something that I clearly don’t get.  She’s toughening up around him, too and will take her lumps (and dish them out).

We’ll have to cover her 11th month and her first birthday soon!  It is exciting and a little bitter sweet.

Finally, here’s some videos to catch you guys up

Six Months!

Apr
No Comments   Posted by admin |  Category:Holidays, Uncategorized, video

Rachel took her first plane ride in March. She was a great baby on the plane. She slept most of the plane ride and was all smiles otherwise. She was also a great baby to have with us on vacation. She napped happily in the Ergo when either Mommy or Daddy was wearing her and she slept pretty well in the the hotel rooms. Hopefully she will be this good for our trip down to LA in May.

Shortly after we got back, Rachel turned 6 months old. I’d say she has officially entered the “Happy Baby” phase. She has three levels of smiles, depending on how happy she is. There is a regular smile, a smile with a wrinkled nose, and a smile with a wrinkled nose and her tongue sticking out. I am trying to get pictures of all three, but they are hard to catch on camera. Overall her 6 months photos were hard to get. She loved the pickle though. :) Good thing we have professional portraits scheduled.

Skills wise, she hasn’t really mastered anything new. She will stand up at a table and play if you put her up there, but she can’t get down without falling so we have to watch her. She is almost sitting entirely on her own and only falls when she gets startled. She still gets tired when she sits for too long, but is figuring out how to lower her self to the ground instead of falling down. She’s sitting well enough that we moved her to the high chair for meals. She has also learned to control her rolls from both her back to her tummy and her tummy to her back. She doesn’t do much rolling, unless it is to get off her tummy, but we know she can do it. We even have video proof!

She will be getting plenty of tummy time soon enough. Rachel transitioned into daycare and started going three days a week on Monday. The first couple of days of transition were rough, but by Friday, she was smiling and having some fun. When Monday rolled around, Daddy was able to drop her off with no problems. On Tuesday, she even let the teachers put her down to play a few times. Her naps and eating schedules are a little off still, but those will even out. There is an active little boy about a month older than her and a very relaxed little girl that is about a month younger than Rae. We’re excited to see if she decides to be friends with either of these two.

Sunday was Easter, of course. We took Rachel to the Bunny Bounce at the Zoo and posed her for pictures on her blanket with some eggs and her Easter basket. She was in a great mood, so I actually got some good pictures this time. On Easter morning, she was greeted with a basket of candy and a new toy. We let her have one Peep to play with. She only ate about one bite of it, but it was fun to watch.

5 months old

Mar
No Comments   Posted by admin |  Category:Milestones, video

Rae turned 5 months old at the beginning of March.  She grabs anything in her reach and puts it in her mouth.  She even tried to grab the camera when I took her 5 month pictures. She’s turning into a fun, happy baby that loves to explore her world.  The video is of her laughing, which is maybe one of the cutest things in the world.

In past couple of weeks, Rae had a huge developmental leap!  She learned to hold her own bottle, move around in her exersaucer, sit while propped up with a toy, started solid food, got her first and second teeth, and will stand if you hold just one of her hands.  She’s also starting to discover her feet and legs.  She’s really close to rolling onto her tummy from her back and now can really control her roll from her tummy to her back.  Just today, she reached for and successfully grabbed a toy in front of her while she was on her tummy.

Rae and Sam are starting to play together, particularly when she’s in her exersaucer.  The other night he was ringing a bell and giggling and had Rae giggling along with him.  Between her desire to play with her brother, her need to touch everything she sees, and the huge developmental leaps, it seems that we will have a very busy little girl on our hands in no time!

The Phoenix Post

Feb
No Comments   Posted by admin |  Category:Home, Milestones, stats, video

We seem to have had everything that could go wrong with the web site go wrong lately.  In a month and a half, rachelyang.org has been hacked, had its domain registration get lost, and now had its hosting server go down with data loss.   Luckily, we had a backup of the site after the hacking (so maybe that was a good thing in retrospect) but we still lost about 5 posts.  Anyway, here’s the catchup post (thanks to a cached version from Google, whew).

4 Months

Sorry it has been a while since we updated – we had some problems with the website host.  That’s all fixed now and lots has been happening since we last updated.

First here’s some cute pictures with Rachel and Sam.  Rachel is wearing the gift we got from my office.

Rachel has really discovered her hands and that they are useful for things like taking out her pacifier, looking at it and putting it back in her mouth.  Sometimes it goes back in upside down (and she likes it that way!).  She has even started transferring toys between her hands.

Rachel also turned 4 months old.  She weighed in at 14 lbs, 13 oz and gained an inch in length in two months.  She is now almost 26″ long.  I wasn’t able to get all of my usual pictures because she was a little cranky that day, so here’s a bonus one of us outside on a sunny day.  Her face is becoming very expressive. :D

16 weeks

Yes, it has been that long, our little girl isn’t so little anymore.  We are having her sleep in her own room now and so far, so good.  It’s really nice to be able to read in bed again and not worry about waking up the little one if I have to adjust the sheets.  She’s also turning into her giggly and chatty self again.  We are enjoying the good times for now, teeth are coming soon no doubt.

Babbling

Rachel’s definitely coming into her own personality now.  She’s turning into a little flirt when you talk to her.  There’s lots of babbling and smiles and if you don’t pay enough attention to her, she will squeal until she gets your attention.  We’re still sleep challenged and she won’t sleep for more than 4 hours at night but at least there are moments like these.

First Chrstmas, Sledding, and Three Months

Jan
No Comments   Posted by admin |  Category:Holidays, Milestones, video

Rachel’s had a busy few weeks.  She had her first Christmas, including a pretty Christmas dress.  Mostly, she loved having everyone around – she’s totally a people person.

After everyone got better from being sick at Christmas, we took Sam and Rae sledding.  She mostly just stayed in the Ergo carrier, very bundled up, or in the car taking pictures with mom.

And in the new year, Rae turned 3 months old and is starting to laugh!  She is definitely very different than Sam.  She goes to sleep on her own now and is starting to use her hands to self soothe.  She still doesn’t enjoy tummy time (and isn’t rolling yet), but we’ve discovered that milk irritates her reflux, so mom has eliminated that from her diet.  She seems to have started into the drooly, pre-teething stage and is quite good at blowing bubbles. She got a Bumbo for Christmas, and that has vastly improved meal times.  Now she can watch us eat (and interject her opinion on the topic of conversation, too) instead of staring at the ceiling.  We’ve got lots of nicknames for her – Rachel, Rae, Roo, Rachel Roo, and Bubbles.  We’ll see which one sticks.

1st week

Things have been busy around here with Sam home but Rachel is doing just great.  She’s sleeping for 4 hour stretches now at night and making mommy and daddy very happy.  Her cord stump fell off and she got her first bath yesterday.  We learned from our experience with Sam and steamed up the bathroom first so it was nice and warm and she went through the whole bath without a cry :-)    Sam also really likes to help with Rachel, he rinsed her with his watering can and brought the boppy over to Adrianne yesterday when she was getting ready to nurse.

Here’s some good shots of Rachel with Grammy, Uncle Thomas, snuggled up with mommy, just hanging out, and pretty in pink courtesy of the grandparents.

Finally, here’s a video from the hospital for your enjoyment.
