Her 8th Month

With the new mobile uploading it is really easy to post quick updates, but it is time to get the other photos we took during her 8th month up.  We’ll probably start doing a once a month post like this one combined with the mobile posts.

Rachel has had a very busy month.  She got her two top teeth, had her first visit to Disneyland and the beach, and started really exploring her world.

At the beach, Rae decided that sand was good to pull up in, but only when holding someone’s hands.  She’s been working on it since, but can only make it to her knees.  However, Rae started army crawling this month and now there is no stopping her!  She loves that she can now explore her world.  I don’t think it will be long before she’s crawling on all fours, especially if we keep playing outside since she doesn’t like to army crawl in the grass, but still wants to explore.  She has also mastered going from her tummy to sitting.

Yifan went to a lunch at daycare with Rae this week, where he learned that Rae has been army crawling all over the room and crawling under the cribs, which was something Sam loved to do.  Her teachers also pointed out that Rae has been dancing, when you sing to her.  We’ll have to catch that one on video.

Disneyland was an interesting experience with Rae.  She loved all the music and bright colors, but what she really loved was Minnie Mouse.  She would flap her arms, get wiggly and giggle whenever she saw her.  I think it helps that Minne was dressed in all red, which is a color that she’s really drawn to.

Rae is really trying to pull up and she can get to her knees, but she still gets easily distracted. Take the shiny handle for instance.

Rachel and I went on an excellent adventure for some Father’s Day supplies. I decided she could drive. Although some shelves were knocked over, she got quite a few compliments on her mad skillz.

I went to a father’s day celebration at daycare the other day and got a nice snowglobe from rachel. It was wrapped and I make her a littler tiara from the pipe cleaner holding the wrapping paper together. She didn’t seem to mind too much.

We now have the ability to post on the fly. There will probably more frequent, spur of the moment posts like this one. We will still keep up with the longer posts, but this way we can share the Rae cuteness faster.

Here is a cute shot of Rae and her 4.5 teeth.

Seven Months

Rae continues to grow and develop, as she should.  Right around the 7 month mark, she finally popped one of the four teeth she was working on.  We all thought it would be a top one, but nope it was another bottom tooth!  On top of that, she shows no more signs of the other three coming in, so she might be a three toothed baby for a while. :)

Rae’s hair is starting to thicken up and she winds up with “crazy hair” half the time where the top middle just sticks up.  At 7 months she has more hair than Sam did at a year!  I am definitely curious to see if she ends up with any of the baby curls that Sam had, but so far it is stick straight.

On a less superficial side of things, Rae is officially working on crawling and pulling up.  She has a ways to go, but you can see the synapses in her brain starting to fire as she realizes she can move.  At night, we often have to go rescue her because she has rolled over onto her stomach and is trying to get on her hands and knees in her sleep.  During the day, we’ve caught her going from sitting to lying on her tummy, by leaning herself forward.  She has even scooted a few inches forward and backward in an effort to reach toys.  Of course, while Mommy and Daddy leave toys out of Rae’s reach, Sam will bring them to her.  It is pretty cute, but isn’t motivating her to crawl. :)

Yesterday, I put Rae up to stand on the toy table in the living room, to play a little.  She started to fall, so I put her down to sit on the floor.  As soon as I put her down she turned to the table and put her hands up on the edge.  I could just her brain working and trying to figure out what she needed to do to get back up there.

On the self feeding front we discovered that she will pick up pieces of avocado and broccoli and at least attempt to get them in her mouth.  She refuses to touch banana though.  She’ll happily eat banana, mashed or in chunks, but she just doesn’t want to touch it.
