Uh oh

Nov
No Comments |  Posted by admin |  Category:Uncategorized

Rachel has discovered the joys of saying “uh oh”.  She also scrunches up her nose and says “cheese” when you point a camera at her.

She is also 90% of the way to full walking!

They change so fast!

Happy Birthday Rae!

Oct
No Comments |  Posted by admin |  Category:Uncategorized

It has been a very busy and fast year, but here we are, Rachel is 1 year old!  Looking back, she’s been such a blessing and a wonder on how babies can be so alike and so different.  We’re very thankful that she’s so happy and content with herself, it makes all the difference when there’s another little one running around.  She also sleeps well which is a remarkable change from Sam who would wake up at the slightest noise.  Of course, she doesn’t seem to be such a bookworm as Sam was but that seems to be changing around now and they both seem to share a love for the dog dishes at this age, sigh…  It’s a joy to see her big grin in the mornings and have her point her finger at you for a hug and kiss.  We’re also very thankful that Sam and Rachel love each other so much.  Now that she’s a little bigger, she really is getting into the roughhousing with her brother.  We’re looking forward to seeing how our little girl will blossom in the next year.

Rachel had a lovely little party with family for her birthday.  All her favorite foods including meatballs, dino nuggets, broccoli, and baked beans were served.  Adrianne made two lovely cakes with a ladybug theme.  Red is Rachel’s favorite color and apparently chocolate is her favorite frosting as you’ll see in the video below.  Sam graciously helped her blow out her candle and after a bath, we opened all her presents.  Rachel had a pretty good haul including a baby doll, pull along snail, a drum set, bus, and new dresses.  Sam got her the drum set and seems to have taken it over but Rae’s favorite part was the mini egg maracas which Sam doesn’t care for so that worked out.  She’s looking forward to Christmas.

11th month

Oct
No Comments |  Posted by admin |  Category:Uncategorized

It looks like we’ll have a double post today, but there is much more to update!

September was very busy for us.  Rae decided to start free standing, even getting up from the ground on her own.  She also started climbing everything, the stairs, chairs, etc.  She will walk behind the airplane or holding our hands and took a few single steps, but no real walking yet.  My favorite is when she points and says “this” or “that”.  “This” is when she wants to know what something is and “that” is when she wants some of that.  :)   She’s using more words, but nothing very consistently.  She also popped one molar through, which was no fun for anyone.

Rae also got to go visit her Nai Nai and Yie Yie in Baltimore! She had a lot of fun exploring their house and yard.  There were acorns outside that she loved to play with and lots of toys she had never seen.  She got to visit the Natural History Museum, the National Zoo, and Smithsonian Air and Space museum.  She was utterly spoiled by her grandparents and just had a wonderful time.  Oh and she ate a “pound of meatballs” at every meal (i.e. she actually ate more than Sam!).

I’ve got a couple of videos this time.  The first is Rae climbing up and down from the rocking chair.  Now she will climb up the chair, over the table to the couch, get down from the couch, then cruise back over to the rocking chair.  This video is when she had just figured it out.  The second is her playing peekaboo with Sam on a train ride in Pennsylvania.

9th and 10th month

Sep

I am a slacker and missed posting about her 9th and 10th month.  Actually, we’ve been really busy enjoying the end of the summer, which means we’ve been running around and not at home quite as much.

Rachel has been quite busy growing and learning.  She has learned to crawl fast, climb, and get into everything; pull up; free stand; give up bottles; clap;  point; sign more and all done and play peekaboo.  Her hair is long enough that I can get it into a pigtail here and there (she hates it) and her last growth spurt seems to have been entirely in her feet.  She went from not being able to wear her shoes because they were all too big to not being able to wear three pairs because they were all too small.

She has even started to done some beginning talking, which seems to involve milk (“mah”), dog (“dahg”), Sadie (“adie”), “pretty”, and all done (“ah da”).  We’re just starting to decipher all of it, and she doesn’t do it consistently yet.  She’s getting close and she gets really happy when we seem to figure out what she’s trying to say.  She’s a really good mimic (she copied Sam and I saying “Cock a Doodle, Doo”), so it is hard to tell what is her talking and her mimicking us.

Rae and I went with my mom to my cousins wedding in Wisconsin.  She was an awesome traveler and charmed everyone.  We all had a great time and she finally got to wear one of the beautiful party dresses that Nai Nai has been picking up for her.

At daycare, Rae has been having a lot of fun with the older kids.  Now that she is crawling and climbing, she gets to join them on the concourse and the play equipment out there.  Sadly, the big kids are transitioning out soon, so she will be the oldest.  Hopefully, she will transition into the tots room soon so she can have her big kids to play with again.

I don’t know if it is because she’s a second kid, but she really loves to play with older kids, especially Sam.  If he’s on the floor, she wants to be involved in what he’s doing.  I will often come into a room and find them giggling about something that I clearly don’t get.  She’s toughening up around him, too and will take her lumps (and dish them out).

We’ll have to cover her 11th month and her first birthday soon!  It is exciting and a little bitter sweet.

Finally, here’s some videos to catch you guys up

On to one nap

Aug
No Comments |  Posted by admin |  Category:development, Play

Ever since her trip, Rae’s been insisting on one nap a day.  This means about one and a half hours at daycare and then meltdown around 5:30.  She’s also been working on her molar so the crankiness has been a bit high lately.
Today we went to the dog park and then stuck around for Big Day of Play.  There were lots of sports, crafts, and games for the kids sponsored by neighborhood centers and lots of yummies from PCC.  Rae seemed to really enjoy watching Sam play even though she didn’t have much to play with.  She did seem to enjoy her first corn on the cob though, well corn kernels from the cob. When we got home, she took an epic nap and then ate everything on sight.
Of course Sam wanted to go to the park with the zipline so Rae got some more park time.  She really enjoys the wind in her hair, especially in the swing.

Baby or Dog?

Rae has taken to carrying toys around in her mouth (only approved ones, so no worry of choking) so she can crawl around with them. I have to wonder if we have a baby or a dog sometimes.

Her 8th Month

Jun
No Comments |  Posted by admin |  Category:Uncategorized

With the new mobile uploading it is really easy to post quick updates, but it is time to get the other photos we took during her 8th month up.  We’ll probably start doing a once a month post like this one combined with the mobile posts.

Rachel has had a very busy month.  She got her two top teeth, had her first visit to Disneyland and the beach, and started really exploring her world.

At the beach, Rae decided that sand was good to pull up in, but only when holding someone’s hands.  She’s been working on it since, but can only make it to her knees.  However, Rae started army crawling this month and now there is no stopping her!  She loves that she can now explore her world.  I don’t think it will be long before she’s crawling on all fours, especially if we keep playing outside since she doesn’t like to army crawl in the grass, but still wants to explore.  She has also mastered going from her tummy to sitting.

Yifan went to a lunch at daycare with Rae this week, where he learned that Rae has been army crawling all over the room and crawling under the cribs, which was something Sam loved to do.  Her teachers also pointed out that Rae has been dancing, when you sing to her.  We’ll have to catch that one on video.

Disneyland was an interesting experience with Rae.  She loved all the music and bright colors, but what she really loved was Minnie Mouse.  She would flap her arms, get wiggly and giggle whenever she saw her.  I think it helps that Minne was dressed in all red, which is a color that she’s really drawn to.
